PRESS RELEASE

Saxlund announces further contract deals with Anglian Water.

Leading provider of bulk materials handling and utilities storage kick starts 2013 with new projects for leading water company. The largest water and wastewater company in England and Wales has awarded Saxlund International with new contracts, to deliver sludge cake handling and storage systems at three more of their treatment facilities in 2013, adding to the existing work won at two other sites last year.

The deal means Saxlund will expand on its previous contracts for Anglian Water to add installations for the Marston sewage treatment works (STW) and Canwick STW, both in Lincolnshire, and Harwich STW in Essex, to its extensive delivery portfolio.

Saxlund, the UK subsidiary of Opcon AB – the energy and environmental technology group – was tasked with the development of a system for the storage of a sewage sludge cake at Anglian Water’s Thetford site earlier in 2012. This led to a similar project at a site in Bedford which soon followed.
Under the contracts at the three additional sites, Saxlund will deliver truck loading storage silos for the loading of dewatered sludge cake into trucks. The silo will be supported high above the road to allow cake to be loaded directly into trucks below, before being pumped into the silo and discharged by the reciprocating action of the Saxlund Sliding Frame into a truck loading discharge screw conveyor.

Matt Drew, Managing Director for Saxlund International, commented: “Our extensive experience as a market leader in sludge handling and delivering industry leading flat bottom silo technology was fundamental in securing more work with Anglian Water. These three additional contracts will enable us to drive more business into the utilities market and further develop our portfolio and knowledge of this sector, which has already been in existence for more than 60 years.
“We’re delighted to continue working with Anglian Water throughout 2013 to deliver these projects and help them with their commitment to reshape their business around a low-carbon model.”

Anglian Water has a commitment to achieve a business model that keeps its carbon footprint as low as possible. To implement this strategy, Combined Heat and Power engines at its highly contemporary advanced digestion plants need to be installed as part of its Biosolids Programme.
Installing these engines is part of the new hydrolysis digestion plants and provides an important element in reducing operational carbon. Anglian Water is, as a result, building a number of centralised advanced digestion sites which require additional sludge cake imports from satellite sites.

Gordon Eve, Treatment Manager for Anglian Water’s Harwich works, said: “As part of our Love Every Drop initiative we are working across our region to maximise the amount of renewable energy we produce as part of the wastewater treatment process.
“The installation of truck loading facilities, like that at Bedford, will enable us to transport more sewage sludge from smaller sites to those where this can be converted into energy. What’s more, the silos that Saxlund will provide will help to ensure that our customers in the local area will not be affected by this process.”

Saxlund has extensive experience in designing, manufacturing and installing quality equipment of first class specification, construction and performance in the bulk materials handling and utilities industries.
