Saxlund International Ltd, a subsidiary of Opcon, the energy and environmental technology Group, has been awarded a contract from Geo. Robson & Co Ltd in the UK to provide equipment associated with Robson’s contract for the design, manufacture and installation of the fuel handling system at E.ON’s forthcoming Blackburn Meadows Renewable Energy Plant. Saxlund contract is for the design, delivery and commissioning of two linear TubeFeeder™  discharge machines for the reclaiming waste wood chips from the storage building. The TubeFeeders™ are to be delivered in December 2012 and commissioned in 2013.

The new biomass fired renewable energy plant is the second new UK biomass power station to invest in Saxlund’s TubeFeeder™ reclaimers. The 30MWe renewable energy plant will produce enough power for around 40,000 homes by converting recycled waste wood into electricity.

The plant will also displace the emission of around 80,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, the equivalent of taking more than 20,000 cars off the UK’s roads each year, by burning carbon neutral fuel in place of traditional fossil fuels like coal and gas.

  • We are very happy to have been awarded this contract with Geo. Robson & Co Ltd.  The award will strengthen our work within the UK, and build important relationships for the future, said Matt Drew, Managing Director, Saxlund International Ltd.
  • The UK market, and our presence there, is an important part in our aim to grow internationally within bioenergy and waste heat recovery, says Rolf Hasselström, CEO, Opcon AB.
  • Kevin Mannion Robson’s Production Director stated “With the increasing use of biomass within the power generation industry, products developed specifically for the industry’s harsh environments and performance criteria are essential to ensure a robust and reliable performance. Both Robson and Saxlund products are industry proven, with track records of giving many years continued trouble free service.
  • Luke Ellis, Project Developer at E.ON, said:  “We’re pleased to be working with Saxlund and Geo. Robson & Co on the Blackburn Meadows project.  E.ON is leading the development of renewable energy in the UK and biomass power stations form an important part of our low carbon future.”

Saxlund International Ltd is part of Opcon Bioenergy and Opcon’s expanding Renewable Energy business area and its Waste to Value initiative with a special focus on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy.
